Damascus Corkscrews
I was asked to create a special gift for a wine lovers 65th birthday. I decided what better gift than a corkscrew and to make it extra special I gave it a Damascus steel handle made from layers of 400 year old wrought iron and bandsaw blades. The result of which was the lovely contrast of the light and dark steels. A few years later someone saw that corkscrew and asked me to make another. Below are examples of both corkscrews i have been lucky enough to make.
Services: Contemporary forge work
Materials: wrought iron and bandsaw blade Damascus steel with mild steel screw.
Size 110mm x 130mm
“As a present to celebrate my 65th birthday and my love of good wine, I was given this unique corkscrew, after some enquiries I found it was made by a very talented young man called Lee Pickard. It is superbly handcrafted, very substantial with a very comfortable feel to it – so far there is no cork that has been able to resist it! If you are looking for something as bespoke as this or something more industrial – you should certainly make contact with Lee – when I can think of something I would like that is as practical, I will certainly be contacting him!”
