Metalwork Restoration
The process of restoring is described as “the renewal, revival or reestablishment of something to its former, original or normal condition”. At The Yorkshire Forge, we enjoy the challenge and reward of conserving; restoring and replicating historic and decorative wrought and cast ironwork.
“We cannot recommend Lee highly enough, not only for his craftsmanship, but because he is a pleasure to work with and his skill is unquestionable. Thank you Lee.”
We enjoy the opportunity to work on these pieces and learn from them whilst preserving the historical ironwork and allowing the next generations a chance to enjoy and be inspired by them too. Restoration can range from small works such as brazing up damaged leaf work in a decorative piece in order to preserve as much of the original as possible; to larger-scale works such as removing the damaged components such as scrolls and leaf work and re-forging and fitting the newly forged components.
When restoring ironwork we always aim to use historically accurate materials and techniques where feasible and retain as much of the original piece as possible whilst ensuring that it will last for another 100 years.
